Heavenly beaches in Alcudia
Port de Alcudia boasts some of the best beaches in the north of Majorca. - Alcudia beach: It is the beach that lies closest to the centre of town and the port, and offers services and facilities. It is the longest stretch of sand in the Balearic Islands (7km) and is perfect for a day on the white, fine sand with kids or to do all kinds of sports.
- Aucanada beach: Aucanada has a cove that is perfect for a day on the beach with your family, as it is the beach of choice of locals who want to escape the crowds. It is 200m long and boasts a lovely pine forest by the seashore and a small island off the coast, with one of the most famous lighthouses in Majorca. Poncet is a nearby cove with a fishing village spirit, and Es Faralló is close by too.

Tourists generally go to S’Illot beach, which owes its name to the islet that protects it from the wind. - Coll Baix beach: Coll Baix is one of the few unspoilt beaches in Majorca. It is 250m long and access is not easy, as it is in a cape away from it all, and you must drive across several kilometres of pine forests. Its dark grey sand contrasts with the turquoise-blue colour of the sea. Coll Baix is one of the best spots for mooring boats in the area.

Major events in Port de Alcudia
- 5 January – Cavalcade of Magi: The traditional, eye-catching cavalcade of the Three Wise Men takes place on 5 January every year. The Magi arrive in a ship lit by thousands of lamps at the Port de Alcudia. From the port they get on carriages taking them to the streets of the village, with a large entourage giving candies to the crowd. The parade closes with a spectacular firework display.
- January – Animal blessing: Alcudia holds a peculiar fiesta to honour the patron saint of animals, Saint Anthony the Abbot. Besides the typical blessing of animals, an old local tradition, the town gets filled with bonfires (foguerons), and demons (dimonis) take to the streets with torches and firecrackers.
- February – Carnival in Alcudia: Kids are the true stars in the festive Carnival celebrations in Alcudia: parades, carriages of all shapes, outdoor parties and children’s workshops. Sa Rua takes the streets, filling them with colour and laughter.
- March/April – Holy Week: Holy Week celebrations arouse great religious fervour in Alcudia. Resurrection Sunday is the big day of the week and is known as the day of Es tres botets, which refers to the statue of the Virgin that has an articulated arm that bounces three times (tres botets). On Tuesday, the Shrine of La Victoria takes centre stage.
- April – Angel Sunday: After Easter, Alcudia celebrates Pancaritat, a traditional fiesta featuring a choir concert in a unique site: Cova de Sant Martí, a cave with medieval altars only a few kilometres from town.
- June – Saint Peter of Alcudia: Saint Peter, the patron saint of sailors, has numerous devotees in this town in the north of Majorca. On 29 June, the Port de Alcudia gets all dressed up and organises activities such as sports, children’s workshops or street parties for a whole week. The main functions are the sea-land procession, where the statue of the saint is carried on a boat or barca de bou across the bay.
- 1 July – Feast of La Victoria: The Mare de Déu de La Victòria Festival is one of the most genuine Majorcan traditions. Held in Alcudia, right by the sea, the charming celebrations include a popular race, trencada d’olles, an ensaimada competition and a big night party.
- 25 July – Patron Saint Festival in Alcudia: In July, Alcudia pays tribute to its patron saint, Sant Jaume (Saint James). Celebrations begin a week before, with all kinds of entertainment options for visitors and out-of-towners alike: processions and parades, art shows, workshops, children’s games, concerts, parties and big fireworks over the city walls.
- August – Almirante Conde de Barcelona Trophy Regatta: A spectacular regatta with period ships is held in Alcudia bay. It lasts several days, when you can watch eye-catching ships from older days.
- 24 August – Ronda Murades night race: Closely linked to sports, Alcudia holds a sports event that has attracted crowds for ages: a race in the walled Old Town at night. It is held on the same day of the feast of Saint Bartholomew to express gratitude for the summer harvest, a time of fruit harvesting, especially watermelon and melon.
- October – Fira de Alcudia (Alcudia Fair): The local fair is a huge display of the culture and traditions of the quiet village of Alcudia. It is a three-day celebration where visitors can taste products grown in the land or go to concerts and exhibitions. Do not miss the cabezudos or big-heads parade.

What to do and what to see in Port de Alcudia
- Alcudia city wall: A well-preserved centuries-old wall encircles the old town and the magic that has come down to us from the Middle Ages in this small town in the north of Majorca. There were three main gates in the past but the most important was the Majorca Gate, which linked the town to the Palma Royal Road.
- Church of Sant Jaume: Following several renovations, today the church has a single nave flanked by chapels. The altar, in the Neo-gothic style, is dedicated to Saint James.
- Casals of Alcudia: Casals were stately homes owned by nobles from Palma who came and took refuge in Alcudia in the 1520s. Many casals look today as they did five centuries ago. Can Torró, for instance, was built in the fourteenth century and has been converted to a library. Other casals worth mentioning are Can Fondo, Can Calvo and Can Canta.
- Roman site of Pollentia: Founded in 123 BC, Pollentia is the major Roman site in the Balearics. Visitors can walk through it to discover where the houses, the forum or theatre stood. There is a museum with a collection of the artefacts found in the excavations on display.
- Major Tower: A walk from the town centre to the Port de Alcudia passes through a watchtower that rises on the former harbour at Port Mayor and was part of a group of five watchtowers. You will see many emblems of the village above the door.

- Alcudia Market: One of the largest traditional markets in Majorca, the Alcudia Market opens on Tuesday and Sunday, with dozens of stalls in the streets of the Old Town. They sell products grown in Majorca’s vegetable gardens, arts and crafts, clothes and accessories, and all kinds of objects. The market is a nice place, oozing tradition in a family-friendly atmosphere.
- Fun at the water park: Alcudia is home to one of the largest water parks in Majorca, Hidropark, for kids and grown-ups to have fun together. The park features slides, pools, paintball facilities, a chill-out zone, a mini-golf course and a 54-hole super-golf course.
- Majorcan bites platter: Tapas in Alcudia and throughout Majorca are not the same as in the rest of Spain. In Majorca they serve small casseroles with local dishes. Besides Spanish omelette, they make frit mallorquí, tumbet, pica-pica, snails… Order a variat, a platter with assorted tapas.
- Cruise in Alcudia bay: From the boat at sea, you can take in the views of the wonderful Alcudia bay, or reach secluded coves or other places with no access by land. The trip from S’Aucanada to Coll Baix is very interesting. In Alcudia there are several companies offering cruises.
- Discovering S’Albufera: A nature park with numerous protected species, some of them endemic and endangered, and bird watching opportunities. A stone’s throw from the sea, it is the largest wetland in Majorca, an oasis of peace and quiet where you can walk or ride a bike surrounded by nature.
- Tramuntana wine route: Alcudia is part of the vine-growing area known as Vino de la Tierra Serra de Tramuntana – Costa Nord.
