The most important festivals in the Canary Islands
- Carnivals on the Canary Islands. Each of the Canary Islands has its own carnival. The carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are the most famous, and attract thousands of people every year. It is a spectacle of lights and excitement to behold.
- Pilgrimages. Multitudinous processions in honor of the patrons of different localities which mix the religious with the festive and traditional spirit of the time. For example,is the feast of "Our Lady of Sorrows", patron saint of Lanzarote, which takes place in mid-September and brings together all the people of Lanzarote in Mancha Blanca.

- Aquatic sports. The Canary Islands are the ideal place for aquatic sports: surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving, swimming and different kinds of sports boats.
- Golf overlooking the Atlantic. There are golf courses on the Canary Islands in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Gastronomic specialities of the Canary Islands
The traditional cuisine is notable for the simplicity of its design and quality and freshness of the food. With excellent basic ingredients, original and delicious recipes have been developed over the centuries.
- No meal lacks enyesques (snacks) where we can find the famous wrinkled potatoes, “ropa vieja” or carajacas, followed by first courses with fish stew or watercress soup.
- The second course can be composed of meat, like rabbit salmorejo, roast leg or the second fish, like fish casserole or onioned tuna.
- Typical desserts: bienmesabe, eggs mole or just a few delicious Canary plantains.
- There are also a great variety of cheeses, soft cheeses from raw goat milk, white, with a mild taste, slightly acid according to the area. Fried cheese is a popular dish on the islands.
- All traditional meals are accompanied by gofio, made from ground wheat or millet, which has been the staple food of the Canary Islands for hundreds of years. There are more elaborate recipes like the escaldón gofio, kneaded gofio or more recently mousse gofio or flan gofio.
- Meals are usually also accompanied by mojos and marinades, which are sauces made with a base of garlic, olive oil, vinegar and spices. Among the most prominent is red mojo, used mainly with meat and potatoes and green mojo, used as a dressing for fish dishes.
- All dishes can be accompanied by a fine wine with appellation of origin of Lanzarote.
What to shop in the Canary Islands and where
- Shopping always with discounts. The Canary Islands offer a multitude of shops which due to their special tax status carry items with a very convenient price for the visitor, such as consumer electronics, designer clothes, perfumes, tobacco, alcohol and distinctive souvenirs.
- Typical products of the Canary Islands. Prominent among the traditional Canarian handicrafts are pottery, candles and ceramic or clay pots made with primitive tools or by hand. For its originality it is necessary to mention the figures of "bride and groom" of "el mojón" a couple with sexual characteristics which in times past, newly engaged couples would exchange. In the town of Teguise they make the famous "timples" island folk instrument. Also interesting are the openwork, rosettes and lace and the "palmito" hats, characteristic of the country people
