In all Iberostar hotels around the world, guests participated in initiatives to prove that “every little moment is big for those who live it”
The Iberostar Group celebrated, for yet another year, World Oceans Day on 8 June, in this way getting closer to the ambitious goal of improving the health of the ecosystems that surround its destinations by 2030. It was also a way to carry on spearheading a responsible tourism model that takes care of the seas, oceans, and people. To meet this goal, the hotel group is leading a project, alongside its scientific team, to protect and restore essential ecosystems, such as coral reefs, mangroves, coastal dunes, and seagrasses.
With activities in over 100 hotels around the world, guests participated in different initiatives with the goal of raising awareness and proving that every little gesture is a big one for the ocean. In this way, the 35 Iberostar hotels in Spain joined the global movement that goes by the name ‘Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean’. Among other initiatives, in some hotels murals dedicated to the ocean were painted, beaches were cleaned, and activities such as beach yoga, aquagym, or diving excursions to discover the beauty of the coasts took place.
Megan Morikawa, the Iberostar Group’s Global Sustainability Director, highlighted that “these initiatives align us with our guests’ increasing demand for sustainable and responsible tourism. Our commitment to the oceans not only helps us to create a more resilient business model with strategic actions in the medium and long term, but it also allows our guests to participate with small everyday gestures such as these. We believe it’s important to celebrate days like today so that our guests feel more included than ever in our mission, and so that they can feel like we’re building alliances together”.
The Iberostar Group reaffirms its commitment to its own 2030 Agenda on sustainability, involving significant goals based on science and focused on the circular economy, responsible consumption of fish and seafood, improving coastal health, and caring for and including both guests and the industry in order to raise awareness about regenerative tourism that is more environmentally responsible.
