Iberostar achieves 70% responsible consumption of seafood on a global level
In December 2021, we surpassed our annual objective as set in our 2030 Agenda, achieving 88% responsible consumption of seafood in Spain and 100% in Mexico.
Our commitment to responsible tourism can be seen by how we care for the oceans, the second driving force in the Wave of Change movement. Consuming seafood from a responsible source contributes to conserving the environment and promotes the survival of local communities and the practice of safe working conditions, in addition to ensuring the viability of fisheries at an environmental, personal and economic level.
In December 2021, we exceeded the annual objective we had set for ourselves in the 2030 Agenda and achieved 88% responsible fish and seafood consumption in Spain, 100% in Mexico and 70% across our entire hotel chain. This means these seafood products come from 100% responsible sources with the aim of contributing to environmental conservation, promoting the survival of local communities and ensuring the viability of fisheries. In 2021 alone, 1,000 tonnes of responsibly sourced fish were consumed, 170,000 kilos in our hotels in Spain.
