Where is Salvador de Bahia?

Salvador de Bahia is on Brazil's northeastern coast and is the capital of Bahia state and the first capital of Colonial Brazil. The city is considered the cultural capital of the country, the birthplace of its most important artists.

What does a visit to Salvador de Bahia have to offer?

  • Stunning beaches. Salvador has many beaches along the Atlantic coast and the coast of Bahia de Todos os Santos. It has, in total, 50 km of beautiful beaches, being one of the most extensive coastlines in Brazil. The pleasant water temperature attracts locals (as an extension of their own homes) and tourists all year-ound.
  • Cultural richness. The cultural heritage of Salvador de Bahia, with European, African and Amerindian influences, is represented in its architecture, music and dance. Salvador has the most important colonial architecture in Latin America, considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Its historic area of Pelourinho is known as the largest architectural collection of Latin American baroque colonial style from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
  • Carnival. One of the great attractions of Salvador de Bahia is Carnival, considered the largest, most popular festival in the world. During this festival, more than two million people roam the streets and avenues of the city dancing and skipping after the trio elétricos, trucks on which  are mounted audio amplifiers and a stage where the bands play.
  • Humpback whales. In certain areas of Salvador de Bahia it is possible to enjoy an incredible natural spectacle: humpback whale watching.
