Iberostar Group wins two categories of WTM Latin America Responsible Tourism Awards 2022
Iberostar Group receives the highest award in the “Decarbonising Travel & Tourism” category and silver in the “Reducing Plastic Waste in the Environment” category
Iberostar Group and its commitment to a responsible tourism model have been recognized this week at the World Travel Market Latin America fair, which is held in Brazil, with the highest awards at the Responsible Tourism awards ceremony. "It is a great satisfaction for the Iberostar Group that its projects are recognized in this way. We have sustainability as an engine and conductor of business and we are transforming the way in which travel is perceived," says Gabriel Martorell, Iberostar Group’s Director of Sustainability in America, who was present at the ceremony that took place yesterday at the pavilion in WTM Latin America.
Iberostar Group, through its pioneering movement Wave of Change, has carried out in recent years major actions for the conservation of the environment and the fight against climate change. The company is now focusing on the following pillars marked in its 2030 Agenda: operate under the parameters a circular economy, decarbonize the operations of the company, planned for 2030, being waste-free by 2025, increase the responsible consumption of fish and seafood and improve the coastal health in all the ecosystems surrounding its hotels. The objective of decarbonizing the company and making it carbon neutral, planned for 2030, 20 years ahead of the global goal and the objective of the sector, has been awarded as "Gold Winner" in the "Decarbonising Travel & Tourism" category.
In 2020, the hotel chain eliminated all single-use plastics from all its operations and in its more than 100 hotels around the world. This initiative has been recognized as a "Silver Winner" in the category "Reducing Plastic Waste in the Environment".
