The Celebrated Landmark Becomes Second City Hotel for the Luxurious Iberostar Grand Collection Portfolio
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts today announced the official reopening of the historic Mencey Hotel in the Spanish city of Santa Cruz, Tenerife (Canary Islands) as the latest addition to the brand’s luxurious Grand Collection. The Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey is now fully operational, following an extensive €25 million improvements program designed to combine 21st century quality and service standards with the former grandeur of this historic property. Originally opening its doors in 1950, the property quickly became the epicenter of culture and society in the Canary Islands, with countless illustrious visitors including the Spanish Royal Family, Elizabeth Taylor, Sofia Loren and Joan Miró. The luxurious hotel is located in an exclusive residential area of Santa Cruz, directly in front of the famed Garcia Sanabria botanical gardens.
Miguel Fluxá, Executive President of GRUPO Iberostar stated, "Iberostar is a family-owned enterprise committed to providing superior quality experiences. The company has made every effort to invest in the great city of Santa Cruz, Tenerife." He added, "We aim to fully integrate the new Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey to daily life of the inhabitants of Tenerife, ensuring they feel as though this luxurious property is their home."
At the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey, guests enjoy the refined luxury of a 5-star colonial style property. Facilities and amenities include: an impressive restored lobby; 261 fully-refurbished rooms and 52 suites; an elegantly-appointed gourmet a la carte restaurant "Los Menceyes;" the glamorous "Bar Iballa" offering evening cocktails and afternoon tea and coffee service; along with 10 multi-functional meeting and event spaces equipped with full audio-visual equipment. A new offering for the hotel includes a spa with over 6,500 square-feet of relaxing treatment rooms, serene water ritual pools and relaxation areas. Additionally, the property’s gardens have been expanded to nearly 22,000 square-feet of lush greenery, where an outdoor pool, bar and solarium are located. Furthermore, the "Casa del Duque" - an individual estate located within the hotel grounds - has been acquired and transformed into an exclusive space dedicated for events, featuring direct access to the botanical gardens. Guests of the hotel are also provided complimentary access to the Casino de Santa Cruz, also located on the grounds.
Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands archipelago. Located on the Atlantic Sea, the capital of Santa Cruz is surrounded by mountainous landscapes with varied eco-systems and climates. Within close proximity of the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey, guests are able to arrange excursions and activities including visits to cultural and historic sites, beaches and watersports, as well as hiking and outdoor activities.
The Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey has been managed by the leading Spanish hospitality brand since 2009. With this year’s reopening, the hotel is currently the second city hotel for the Grand Collection, following the inauguration of the Iberostar Grand Budapest.
