Presseerklärungen von IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts
In its firm commitment to leading the development of a more responsible tourism model, Iberostar Group has highlighted the importance of the circular economy as a lever to reactivate tourism during its participation in THE DAVOS AGENDA 2021 virtual meeting organized by the World Economic Forum. From the perspective of the Mallorcan hotel group, responsible tourism must lead the way to helps companies in the sector build back better after the pandemic by embracing three challenges: adopting a long-term vision, aligning its objectives with science, and considering any impact the company has on the environment and communities where it operates.
Gloria Fluxà, Vice-Chairman & Chief Sustainability Officer of Iberostar Group and a member of the World Economic Forum’s 'Young Global Leaders’' community since 2018, addressed at the panel 'Shaping a New Ocean' the importance of rebuilding a more resilient ocean economy and how blue carbon credit solutions can add value to sustainability in the future. Today she will participate at the panel 'Mobilizing Climate Action for COP 26' where she will likewise share Iberostar Group's own 2030 Agenda aimed at being a key player within the sector in the transition towards a more responsible tourism model. For Gloria Fluxà, “one of our main commitments is to continue mitigating climate change through nature-based solutions. This approach aims at harnessing the potential of natural ecosystems as possible solutions. In the tourism sector, and in the hotel industry in particular, we have a unique opportunity to lead the transition towards a circular economy through our decisions”. Along these lines, the hotel chain is already working holistically on projects related to key areas of the blue economy, such as circular economy, the consumption of responsible seafood products and the conservation of the oceans, through its pioneer Wave of Change movement and putting science at the center of its strategy.
Iberostar Group's 2030 Agenda focuses on efficiency in operations through progress towards a circular economy and is aimed at eliminating waste, consuming fish and shellfish from 100% responsible sources, neutralizing carbon emissions, and improving the health of coastal ecosystems where it operates. This year, under the slogan of “A crucial year to rebuild trust”, The Davos Agenda 2021 addresses climate change as one of the main issues to improve the sustainable management of world resources, including the need for a “blue recovery”.
