Iberostar Group receives the Balearic Islands Tourism Award for the best circular tourism initiative
The award was presented on September 27th, World Tourism Day, at the sixth edition of Tourism Night held in Palma
Iberostar Group received the award for the best circular tourism initiative at the Balearic Islands Tourism Awards, granted by the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands (AETIB). The awards celebrate the efforts and dedication of individuals, companies, and institutions, both public and private, in the tourism sector and recognize the professional standards and initiatives that improve the islands’ tourism reputation and offerings.
In its commitment to responsible tourism and the belief in the sector’s regenerative power, Iberostar Group sees sustainability as a driver of a vital transition towards a model of responsible tourism that is resilient in the long term. To realize this, the Group has its own ambitious agenda for this decade focused on the circular economy.
Iberostar Group’s agenda includes being free of waste sent to landfill by 2025 and carbon neutral by 2030. To achieve its zero-waste goal, it reduces, reuses, and recycles all products that enter its hotels and resorts. Already, a department of more than 200 people is analyzing waste to learn how to manage it properly, reduce its impact, and, above all, avoid it in the future.
To achieve carbon neutrality, in addition to calculating and monitoring all its emissions, the Group is focused on improving energy efficiency, using renewable energies, and moving towards the electrification of its operations. These efforts will support decarbonizing the company to the maximum extent possible.
The award ceremony took place at the iconic Misericordia de Palma. The VI Tourism Night was attended by representatives from the tourism sector, officials from the Balearic community, as well as various media.
