Iberostar Selection Playa Mita becomes the first beach vacation resort hotel in Latin America with LEED ® O+M certification

The certification endorses it as a hotel that incorporates best practices in the operation of sustainable buildings

After a long and demanding evaluation process, the Iberostar Selection Playa Mita hotel, in Riviera Nayarit (Mexico), has become the first beach resort in Latin America with LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), awarded by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This 5-star vacation resort was awarded the certification in the GOLD category, with a rating of 71 points. The award endorses and recognizes that all the interior and exterior spaces at this luxury resort operate in a sustainable manner and respect the environment.

The USGBC highlighted the excellent energy performance of the complex, thanks to its innovative facilities, designed with the highest standards in energy efficiency. The hotel’s interior design uses finishes and furniture made of high-quality materials. And a landscaping project includes native species and a central lake fed by collected rainwater and water recovered from other processes, which feeds the complex's irrigation network reducing the hotel's water consumption.
