Gloria Fluxà presents our 2030 decarbonization strategy at the WTTC in Riyadh

Iberostar’s vice-president and CSO shared the Group's sustainability and decarbonization strategy

“Clean, Protected, and Restored” was the theme of the talk by Gloria Fluxà, vice-president and CSO of Iberostar Group, at the 22nd World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit, held in Riyadh at the end of November.

Halting and reversing biodiversity loss and the climate crisis were set out as priorities, as Gloria Fluxà outlined Iberostar Group's clear long-term commitment to responsible tourism to have a positive effect on nature. Solutions implemented by Iberostar, such as nature-positive tourism, effective waste management, and single-use plastic reduction, were raised as ways the sector can address the planetary crisis.

Iberostar’s vision is for coastal communities and the ecosystems of the destinations where we operate to thrive while enriching quality, profitability, and the customer experience. 

Gloria Fluxà emphasized that to achieve this vision, it must be clear from the outset and integrated into the core of the company's business strategy, such as the Wave of Change movement that promotes the circular economy, coastal health, and “blue foods” derived from aquatic animals and plants. 

In conclusion, the vice-president and CSO said, “We are all intrinsically linked to biodiversity and nature. Adoption of a bold global biodiversity framework that addresses the key drivers of nature loss is needed to secure our own health and well-being. We hope to encourage other businesses, public sectors, and governments to integrate biodiversity safeguards throughout their operations and supply chain, take action to avoid or minimize negative impacts and play a proactive role in nature protection and restoration.”
