Unmissable beaches in Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba overlooks the sea. Its bay has a unique geography and is dotted with a combination of civil and military buildings that bear witness to its historical importance. Apart from the bay, there are more than 215 kilometres of beaches in Santiago de Cuba, featuring countless sandy beaches unique to the island due to their striking contrast with the mountainous landscape of the Sierra Maestra.

Playa Siboney is perhaps the most popular among the locals of Santiago. With its black sand and transparent water, it’s the picture postcard Caribbean setting, with its coconut palms by the edge of the sea. Playa Siboney was also the scene of a military episode during the Spanish-Cuban-American War.

In Baconao Park, visitors will find Playa Cazonal. With soft, reddish sand, this beach is a small Santiago de Cuba paradise. Here, you can relax in its innate tranquillity, sunbathe, swim in the warm waters and even go scuba diving.

The exclusive Bella Pluma beach is the only white sand beach on the southeastern coast of Cuba. Accessible by road, getting to Bella Pluma provides the chance to admire the beautiful contrast between the blue of the sea and the green of the surrounding mountain range.
