Flavours, colours, smells… life. Cayo Guillermo delivers a blend of sensory experiences in which every minute brings something new and unexpected, from traditional cuisine to water fun to hiking in the woods to sipping a glass of saoco as you watch the sun go down in Cayo Media Luna, facing Pilar beach.

Experiences in Cayo Guillermo: What to do

  • Trying saoco: Saoco is one of the most popular local beverages, made with green coconut water mixed with rum and ice. Due to its invigorating effect, Cuban slaves used to drink it to endure the heat on the island. Saoco is refreshing and delicious.
  • Visiting Cayo Media Luna: A pebble’s throw form Cayo Guillermo, this little key opposite Pilar beach is perfect to take a splash or go snorkelling and take a look at a thousand and one underwater species. There is a bar on the beach where you can relax and try Caribbean cocktails as you soak in the loveliness of the beach in front of you.
  • Off-road driving in Cayo Guillermo: One of the most entertaining ways of getting around Cayo Guillermo is on a jeep ride, with or without a guide. Since the area is quite unspoilt, there are not many roads or trails, so your jeep can take you to the depth of the tropical forest or as close as you can get to the sea on four wheels.
  • Having dinner with Caribbean flavours: The dining offering in Cayo Guillermo is magnificent. Despite the scarcity of bars and restaurants (the area is quite unspoilt), you will still be able to enjoy local recipes, exotic fruit and original desserts. And they will all taste better if you have them by the sea!
