The activities you can do in Cayo Guillermo are the best way of exploring life this unique land of tropical rainforests and unspoilt beaches. With little human activity, this heavenly place in the Caribbean has virtually no monuments or buildings to see, so most of the tourist offering has to do with nature and the beaches. Highlights include the islet opposite Pilar beach (Cayo Media Luna) and the highest dunes in the region.

What to do and what to see in Cayo Guillermo

  • Cayo Media Luna: Facing the wonderful Pilar beach, this key invites you to discover everything that the Caribbean can offer. Close to the world’s second largest coral reef (the largest one is in Australia), it is a must if you want to admire the coastline of Cayo Guillermo at its most glorious.
  • Dunes in Cayo Guillermo: in addition to the crystal-clear water surrounding it, Cayo Guillermo boasts the largest dunes in the Caribbean. Going beyond 16m in height in some areas, the hills of sand are a unique show of nature – quite rare in this part of the world.
  • Cayo Guillermo nature park: Covering most of Cayo Guillermo (whose surface area is under 13km2), this nature park has remained untouched by man for centuries. It is home to large colonies of migratory birds and flamingos, which fill it with life and colour. There are as many as 12,000 pink, long-legged, aquatic birds living in the park – the largest community in Cuba.
  • Cayo Guillermo Dolphinarium: Located in the south within the nature park, this is the seventh (and latest) dolphinarium opened in Cuba. Accessible from wooden footbridges, it shows dolphins in their day-to-day habits, playing with visitors or in amazing performances.
