IBEROSTAR Club Cala Barca

Our guests reviewsIBEROSTAR Club Cala Barca

  • Chris Mainstone says: about 1 month

We would be very happy to go again.

"Great hotel - very attractive and well maintained buildings, imaginative layout, great swimming pools, beautiful cove with excellent snorkelling and cliff walking, very clean rooms, and lovely food. Very friendly and enthusiastic entertainment team. Great choice for families with kids of whatever age. "

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Club Cala Barca and look forward to visiting an Iberostar hotel again.

"Our 7 night stay at the Iberostar Cala Barca was the first foreign holiday for our kids. Booked via Thomas Cook, we were sold on the all-inclusive package as we weren't certain how much (or how little) our kids would eat and drink (and I was quite keen on the all-inclusive beer!). Our flight out of BHX was the first of the day at 520am, meaning a very early start for our kids. We arrived at the hotel after a 60 minute transfer at around 11am and were issued our all-inclusive wristbands, but our room wasn't to be ready until 130pm. Not a problem though, as we had the run of the hotel and settled on the terrace overlooking the pool with a round of drinks. Seeing some of the other reviews posted on Tripadvisor in the last few days, I really don't see what some people are complaining about. Yes, it's a big complex and yes, it's busy - but remember, it's August and therefore at peak holiday time - they're going to have a LOT of people on site! There are three restaurants: Baleares, Pizzeria and the Mediterano. They all serve breakfast (at staggered times) and lunch, with the Pizzeria not serving an evening meal but is open all afternoon serving snacks and drinks. The food is good, very good. There's a wide choice available too, something for all but the fussiest of tastes. And, yes, it does get busy AT PEAK TIMES. The solution: don't go at those times! We'd tend to eat in the earlier sittings, so never found it an issue getting a table at all. I can agree that the traffic in the Baleares does mean it's a hazard navigating with a plate of food, but you can't blame the hotel for the behaviour of its guests. The breakfast options included; freshly cooked omlettes and fried eggs, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, yoghurts, pastries, croissants, breads, sausage, bacon, beans, scrambled eggs, rice (!) potatoes, cereals, crepes (chocolate spread and condiments available) - what OTHER choice are you people complaining about being needed? The evening meal selection was equally as vast - if you couldn't find anything to your liking, you're too fussy. We only used the restaurants once for lunch as we spent most of the lunch times around the kids pool, so ate at the snack bar (serving chips, burgers, hot dogs, chicken bites and ice creams). The local beer (Mahou) on draught was certainly drinkable, and the soft drinks were also varied (Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Tango, Tango Lemon, Sprite and Soda). The hotel staff are, to a person, fantastic. Always smiling, interacting with the guests, happy to help - not a single one of them wore anything less than a beaming smile (and there was no suggestion that this was forced either). Our room was in block 41, a 5-10 minute stroll from the main reception out of the way of much of the hub of the resort. At night, we could just about hear the on-site entertainment so the noise didn't disturb us. The AirCon in our room was excellent, and was left set at a cool 15c for the duration of our stay. Our room consisted of a double/twin to the rear (where the entrance door was), a corridor with bathroom off it (bathroom had a bath/shower-over combination) and a large living area with two sofa beds and a terrace. We elected to put the kids in the proper bedroom and have the lounge ourselves so that we didn't have to go to bed at the same time as them and could use the terrace in the evenings. The cleaning staff attended everyday and left the place spotless. Our room (4112) didn't have the sun on it directly for much of the day so didn't warm up excessively, but there was enough direct sunlight and warmth on the balcony to dry our wet beach towels in the afternoon. There was also a small fridge and a safe in the room (20 Euros for the week, plus a 5 Euro key rental). Pool towels are available to hire for a returnable 10 Euros each. Speaking of towels: there's a house rule of no reserving sunbeds. This is roundly ignored by all and sundry and, despite the protestations to the contrary from the hotel management, the staff do NOT remove towels placed out there. I'll admit, we did drop our towels off around the kids pool on a few sunbeds on our way to breakfast a couple of mornings. Some people have complained about kids using water pistols around the pool; lighten up. We boght our kids one each and set them boundaries for how and where they could use them. Yes, they occasionally overstepped those boundaries, and so did other people's children. But if you're precious enough to complain about a bit of sprayed water then DO NOT GO TO A FAMILY RESORT! We had one small issue with the kids pool when both of our kids (and a little girl from another family) cut their toes on something on the bottom of the pool. We reported it to the lifeguard who, only speaking a little English, summoned over a member of maintenance staff who spoke fluent English to speak to us. They had a look at the pool and found a tile sitting proud which they said would be looked at (this was on our last day so I can't comment if anything was done later). The beach on site was a gem. Yes, the beach bar isn't included in the all-in deal, but you get a 25% discount there if you choose to frequent it. The sea was clear and blue and WARM! I loved swimming in the sea, and my little lad took to it like a duck to water. Yes, the sand isn't the best for playing in but we spent a pleasant afternoon there. The hotel, and Thomas Cook, run their respective kids clubs. Our kids were content to stay by the pool with us so didn't attend any of the sessions available, but the staff from the kids club were great, open and friendly. Violetta puts in such a lot of effort, and we never saw her without a beaming smile. There are five pools on site; a kids pool and large swimming pool on the family side of the site, two main pools behind the main concourse and a final "Olympic" pool by blocks 55 & 56 (the "posh" blocks). All pools got busy, but in the high heat of a hot August that was expected. None of them were ever overcrowded though and they warmed up nicely in the midday heat. Asides from the restaurants and pools, there's various sports pitches at the rear of the complex, and a good sized convenience store (Star Market) and other smaller souvenir shops on site, as well as a small gym and a games room. If you want to venture outside of the complex, there's an hourly bus service that runs to nearby Porto Petro and Cala d'Or for about 5 Euros each, or you can take a taxi. We took a ride to Porto Petro for 5.50 Euros each way, and Cala d'Or for 9 Euros each way. As a first experience of Iberostar and Mallorca, we all had a great time. Our only gripe, and this is no fault of the hotel, was our early outbound and return flights - if you can get flights mid morning both ways, you'll not feel like you've lost a day somewhere. Would we return? To an Iberostar hotel yes. To Cala Barca, no - but only because we like to go to different places and very rarely stay in the same hotels anywhere that we go. We're so happy with our holiday (both from the point of view of the hotel and our travel agent) that - 2 days after we returned - we're already considering booking up somewhere hot for next summer. Thank you Iberostar and Thomas Cook for a fantastic holiday!"

    would definintely come again

"This was my first stay at Iberostar and it was excellent. The staff were brilliant, always smiling, helpful and very friendly. Accommodation was clean and tidy. We staying in block 12. This was away from the main hotel area and was perfect. Own pool and bar. Patricia was so helpful behind the bar, smiling even when she had lots of cooking orders! I would definitely recommend as it's also within a 5-10min walk to the fabulous Mondrago beach! Thanks for providing us with a brilliant holiday :)"

Excellent Service, great facilities and good all inclusive option

"All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Lots to do and great facilities - lost count of the number of swimming pools. Tennis facilities excellent and sports staff were very helpful. Restaurants and bars were really good, good food and drinks and no queues even in August! Only slight negative was the usual overcrowding round the pools - you have to be up early to grab a lounger!"

    Thanks

"Excellent stay. Check in easy and quick, our request for central location and top floor were met, thank you very much. Even though we turned up at 10.45pm we were advised to get settled and then return to restaurant for some food at 11.15pm, much welcomed. Pools were good, food was good, staff were excellent and entertainment team very good."

    .

"The Hotel and facilities were excellent. Entertainment was constant with programmes starting for all age groups early on the morning and finishing with some excellent shows on the night. The teams of cleaners, groundsmen, barmen and dining room staff kept the Hotel very clean. Food was fantastic with so much choice, especially if you like fish. We will certainly look to use Iberostar next year."
