The gastronomic specialties of Bulgaria
- The quintessential national product is yogurt, which is used as the basis for many recipes such as cold soup tarator (yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil and nuts) or the summer drink airan, yogurt diluted with a little salt.
- Another staple of Bulgarian cuisine are fruits and vegetables. Most recipes are baked, steamed or made in a stew. Grilled pork, chicken or lamb are also very common.
- Bulgarian alcoholic beverages are also very popular outside the borders of the country. The wines have a great international renown as well as local drinks such as rakia, mastika and mint.
- Some of the most traditional dishes that visitors absolutely have to try are lukanka, banitsa, shopska salad, lyutenitsa, sirene and kozunak.
