Hotels in Budva

In Budva, activities will make you fall in love with this Montenegrin destination. Budva’s cultural activities and lovely corners range from impressive medieval forts to nature parks that are still an enduring resource of wilderness. Budva has museums, monuments, historic districts… A coastal town that has it all: culture, tradition, nature and history.

What to do and what to see in Budva

  • Church of Sveti Ivan: This is one of the most important, and oldest (seventh century), religious buildings in town. Its Venetian-style belfry is visible from almost everywhere in Budva. Its interior houses a statue of Our Lady of Budva.
  • Budva Citadel: They say that Budva was home to the earliest human settlement on the Adriatic Sea and one of the oldest in the Mediterranean basin. This long history has left its marks, such as the Venetian citadel, considered to be one of the largest fortified places that have come down to us from the Middle Ages. Its nearly white colour and huge gates are remarkable.
  • Budva Old Town: Stari Grad (Old Town) is the true heart of Budva. A walk across the district takes you to landmarks whose stones tell the history of the medieval city. In its narrow streets and alleys are ruins with nice mosaics, the Church of Holy Trinity, the Church of Sveti Stefan, etc. The historic district is embraced by the citadel, rebuilt in the nineteenth century.
  • Citadel Museum: The museum is housed in the Citadel and contains a large collection of pieces that reveal the past of Budva. Also, it has an interesting library with a number of old books of great value.
  • Sveti Stefan Peninsula: The former fishing village of Sveti Stefan is situated on a rocky peninsula 5km away from town and was converted to an exclusive holiday destination on the Adriatic coast. The medieval buildings rising on the rocks lend the place a magic touch.
  • Budva Archaeological Museum: Located in Stari Grad, this town museum has been recently renovated. Its exhibits provide an excellent survey of what life was like in this part of the world from Antiquity to the end of the nineteenth century. It displays vases, jewellery, coins, weapons, etc.
  • Monasteries in Budva: Surrounding the bay are to be found some of the most beautiful Montenegrin monasteries: Podmaine, from the fifteenth century; Stanjevici, in Pobori; Gradiste – which still has three churches –; and Podostrog, on a hill overlooking the Adriatic shore.
