  High-Quality Fresh Produce

The gastronomy of this region is based on a selection of high-quality fresh produce. There is also a lot of food sold on the streets, in particular kebabs in typical Turkish pita bread.
The most typical dish is the doner made with roast lamb cut into very thin slices. It is served with onion and tomato and accompanied with chips or rice. Another option is the shish made with cubes of meat, usually grilled chicken or beef and served in the same way as the doner.
Kofte are lamb meatballs that may be cooked in many different ways but normally with stewed vegetables.
The king of kebabs is the iskender which is filled with sliced meat, onion, salad, tomato and, to top it all off, covered with yoghurt sauce and crowned with a spot of spicy, red sauce.
