THE ART OF HAGGLING
The Tunisian people make a large variety of products and there is an historical centre in towns and cities where they are sold. Leather goods and articles, authentic slippers and kaftans (a typical tunic) are the most popular.

Visit the houses where they make rugs and apart from buying one you can see how one of the family, usually the woman, hand-sews the rugs on the upper floor of the house.

There is a great number of dagger shops selling spectacular knives with silver-plated sheaths, as well as necklaces and bracelets. Another interesting product is a narguilé, a magical water pipe with which many people can smoke some of the aromatic tobacco produced here at the same time.

Remember that in Tunisia buying something is a complicated process in which the buyer and seller must reach an agreement on the final price through a process of haggling over the initial price. A word of advice: if you really like something then pretend that you are not particularly interested and they will offer you a better price.
