THE LEGACY OF DIFFERENT CIVILISATIONS
As we will see in this section, Hammamet and the surrounding area are like a real-life museum. As mentioned in the previous section, there is a never-ending variety of interesting places to visit. Cultural features include mosques, museums and all kinds of relics dating back to the many different civilisations that settled in Tunisia in past centuries. They are the best places for cultural tourism. Due to its strategic geographical location, on the northern tip of Africa, alongside the Mediterranean Sea, it has witnessed many battles for the control of this small territory. Of the most incredible places to visit, one which has not been previously mentioned is the small village of Ken, 15 kilometres from the hotel. It is a kind of cultural centre, where artistic products are made with an interesting mix of influences and customs with Arab, African and Mediterranean roots. Another very important event is the Classical Music Festival, which takes place in the El Jem coliseum, an unbeatable setting, which carries the audience back to a different century.

FESTIVITIES
In Tunisia, the festivals and celebrations are an explosion of joy and colour and provide the perfect chance to mingle with the locals, who are always happy, friendly and hospitable.

One of the most important festivals takes place on 20 March and commemorates the day when the people gained independence from the French in 1956, following public demonstrations and without a drop of blood being spilt.

Another important festival is Women's Day, which takes place on 13 August and commemorates the day on which legal equality between the sexes was achieved, a very revolutionary event in an Arab country.

Finally, it is important to mention the Hammamet festival which takes place in June and July and gives you the chance to see a variety of events, from plays and folk music concerts to regional singing.
