Beautiful beaches are Jamaica's biggest attraction. Doctor's Cave Beach, one of Montego Bay's best, is found near the Hip Strip, a bustling shopping and entertainment district along Gloucester Avenue. Here you'll enjoy a street-festival atmosphere that combines restaurants and bars with music and dancing. Reggae music was born in Jamaica. The Kingston home where musician Bob Marley wrote and recorded much of his work is now a museum, and one of the best loved attractions on the island. Another leading attraction is Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, popularized in the James Bond film Doctor No., where guides will help you climb all the way from the beach to the top of the falls, joining hands with other climbers to form a human chain as you navigate the stone steps along the way. Many historic Great Houses still stand around Montego Bay, a reminder of the time when sugar plantations thrived here. The Greenwood Great House, built in the 18th century, is one of the best preserved. The most famous is Rose Hall Great House, a restored Georgian manor said to be haunted by Annie Palmer, the "White Witch" voodoo priestess who reportedly murdered three husbands. Bellefield Great House, where the old sugar mill has been converted to a rum cellar, offers tours and tastings. Appleton Estate, Jamaica's oldest sugar estate and rum distillery located about an hour's drive from Montego Bay, features tours, tastings, a gift shop, and a restaurant serving local fare.
