FOLK WISDOM AND MYSTICAL REFERENCES
 It is very difficult to suggest any leisure activity that is not directly related to culture, as one can see from the places recommended above. There are many other cultural places of great interest to visit in Paphos and the surrounding area.

The towns three museums display complete exhibitions. The archaeological and ethnological museums have objects on show from Neolithic times to the present, passing through many different civilisations and influences. The Byzantium Museum contains important icons from the Byzantine era between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Other places of interest in the same city include the basilica of Panagia Limeniotissa, from the beginning of the Christian era, the cornerstone of the areas mystique. The church of Theoskepasti is another of those striking, soulful places. It means watched over by God and tradition recounts that God covered it with constant mist to protect it against the Ottomans attacks.

It is highly recommended to go to the 16th century monastery of Chrysorrogratissa, which has a Byzantine museum inside and is in an area of lush vegetation. In addition, to delight your palate, they make a fine wine in their wineries.

Lastly, it is worth mentioning ancient Polis, an archaeological site enveloped with majestic beaches, which consists of the remains of Marion, and important commercial centre in the Hellenic era.


FESTIVALS
 - Festival of wine: 3-12 September in Limassol.
- Carnival: this pagan feast, so deeply routed in different parts of the planet, is celebrated enthusiastically in Cyprus. The Limassol carnival is famous and lasts two weeks, just 40 days before Easter.
- Easter: at this time of year people attend church en mass, sing hymns and commemorate it in the appropriate way.
-Festival of Aphrodite: celebrated in the first week of September with an opera.
- Festival of Dionysus: a traditional celebration in honour of wine, which runs from 16-18 August.
