REGIONAL FOOD
 The richness of the Mediterranean
The area's gastronomy springs from the Mediterranean tradition with Slavic influences and borrowings from neighbouring countries. Cooking on the Dalmatian coast continues to have an Italian, especially Venetian, flavour. Visitors can try traditional bread, smoked ham and sheep's cheese in olive oil.

RECIPES
Traditional dishes are inspired by the products offered by the areas, such as fish, seafood and vegetables. You can try recipes such as sarma (Turkish in origin with cabbage leaves, mince, herbs and spices), buzara (boiled crayfish in tomato sauce) and rizot (a rich dish with mussels).

INGREDIENTS
One of the area's great assets is fresh fish, which tends to be grilled and served alone. Sole, red mullet and gilthead are particularly good. Other popular options include oysters, which are served raw with a squeeze of lemon or vinegar and shallot, or mussels boiled or cooked in various sauces.

Croatia is also a great place for wines, with production constantly improving.
WINE
As the great Mediterranean land it is, Croatia also has vineyards. Croatian wine is increasingly highly rated by experts. Good white wine is produced in Dalmatia.
