DUBROVNIC, THE HISTORIC CAPITAL
Dubrovnic is the cultural heart of Croatia. Within its ancient walls are hundreds of historical monuments, old alleyways and a port on the Mediterranean Sea.

PLACE TO VISIT
The city contains reminders of all the cultures that governed it until it became the republic of Ragusa in 1382. Its walls are its great heritage, a sign of its power in medieval times. They can be visited every day. Stradun street, the city's main thoroughfare, is particularly worth a visit, as are the Renaissance palaces still standing today, such as the Governor's Palace and Sponza Palace.

EVENTS
The traditional Dubrovnik Summer Festival has been held from July to August for the last 50 years, with plays, concerts and folk events. It usually lasts about five weeks and there is a wide range of events for all tastes. The festival begins with a concert and fireworks in Luza square.

Dubrovnik is also a young city that loves nightlife. There are a few clubs that play the very latest in techno music.

Another festival, in Cavtat, is Cavtatsko Ljeto, a folk festival with plays and concerts in the summer months.

It is worth visiting the Arboretum Trsteno, which contains all kinds of exotic plants, some more than 400 years old.

The 16th century St. Nikola's Church in Cilipique houses the national museum. On Sundays, after mass, there are performances of folk music and a craft fair.
